The Prologue
There's a lot of so-called greats in this business known as professional wrestling. Names known in certain areas or around the world. Names known just in one company or in multiple companies. Names famous for their matches, their accolades, and their achievements known around the world.
And among those greats, there are legends. Hall of Famers. Icons even in this industry. People responsible for the business being how it is today. People responsible for bringing in an era in this business. People who's names the fans of this business will never forget.
And then there stands one above them all. Known as a god among gods, known as the best of the best, known as the true top name in this business' history, present, and future. And now that name, that person, that figure beyond legendary and iconic status... has arrived here in NXT... And for all in this new universe he finds himself in... They're put on warning.... By the man known as The Assassin David Arnold...
And so it begins...
There I stood. Another new arena. Another new ring. Another new atmosphere. Another new roster. Another new universe. I stood there staring at the wall, more specifically a picture. A picture featuring myself and a young lady that the NXT world had never seen before. A smile appeared upon my face, although it was kind of a sad forced smile.
Well Ash, here we are. Another world. Another company. Another chance to make a name for myself again. I just wish you were here at my side like our plans had been...
It seemed like forever since that night. That fateful night... Suddenly, I heard a rustling outside my locker room door. Extra sensitive ears. One of the many different advantages I had over others. That's what attributed to me being the greatest professional assassin out there today. Whether it was from the past, the present, or the future, I was, am, and always will be the greatest professional assassin ever. Just like the greatest professional wrestler ever.
That's when the sound came ringing through the door. The knock on the door. I rolled my eyes, not wanting to deal with anyone right now. I knew that I was going to have to answer the door though, seeing as how it was probably something important. I pulled my phone out of my pocket quickly and glanced at the screen. No text messages or missed calls. I sighed. I let myself get caught up with another female and now I was left out to dry. And the worst part was that she was.... well, for those who didn't know by now, they didn't need to know... I slipped the phone back into my pocket and walked over to the door of my locker room. I turned the knob and opened the door to find none other then Jeremy Borash standing there with a NXT cameraman behind him. I didn't complain about him being there, seeing as how I invited him. I didn't know of any NXT interviewers at this time, so I invited Jeremy here since he's been pretty much my interviewer everywhere else for about 2 years or so. He knew enough about me to know when to ask something, what not to ask, and how not to piss me off. Smart man.
I moved out of the way and invited the cameraman and Jeremy in to set up for an interview. Figured I needed to do something to get my name out there in the NXT world, especially for my huge match coming up at Heatwave. After all, it's not everyday that you get a chance to become a company's first ever World champion. I sat down on the couch, propping my feet up on the table, as I waited for them to finish setting up. As they finished getting ready, we waited for the signal before beginning.
Ladies and gentleman, my name is Jeremy Borash, and I'm sitting here with one of the new faces and names here in NXT, although a name and face that anyone outside of this company would recognize almost instantly. I'm sitting here with the former 21 time World champion "The Assassin" David Arnold. David, it's great to see you again.
It's great to be have you here JB. After all, I wasn't really informed of who was an interviewer around here, so I figured I'd go find the one that's been around my career a lot lately.
That I have. Pretty much most of the time over the past few years I've been involved in most of your interviews. It's nice to know that I've garnered that kind of respect from you.
I don't know about me having any respect for you, but at least you always seem to be available when I call. Now can we get to the point of this interview?
Right. Sorry. So other then a few appearances on NXT cameras here and there, the NXT universe doesn't really know anything about you. So give us all a brief look at who you really are.
Who I am? I'm simply known as The Assassin David Arnold.
There's an awkward pause there as Jeremy kind of looks at me expecting more.
Well, we know all that, but...
But what? You want me to go through the stupid lines that everyone wants me to go through when I come to a new place? You want me to go through the same song and dance that I go through when introducing myself? Is that what it is, JB?
Well I... uh...
Shut up Jeremy. Just shut up. You want me to do the same song and dance? Fine.
I turned my attention to the camera, staring right into it with that determined and focused look on my face that struck fear in the hearts of those who found themselves targets of mine.
I am the Assassin David Arnold. The greatest professional assassin to ever live. And the greatest professional wrestler to ever live as well. I've only been in this business for a little over 8 years and yet I'm a 21 time World champion, destroying the record of The Nature Boy Ric Flair about a year ago or so. I've held championships everywhere I've been, totaling up to over 175 different championship reigns in 11 different professional wrestling companies. Everyone I have faced, I have defeated at least once. And if I've faced them more then 2 times or so, I hold more victories over them then they do me. I've defeated the supposed best that this business had to offer. I've won multiple Match of the Year, Feud of the Year, Top Male of the Year, Sexiest Male of the Year, and Most Dominate Champion of the Year awards everywhere I have gone. I've won tournaments with ease, been with more women in this industry then Hugh Hefner, and quite simply to the point dominated this business for the past 8 years ever since I arrived on the scene. And now I'm here to dominate in NXT. Just like only I can.
I suddenly got up and walked over to the door of the locker room, surprising Jeremy and the cameraman. I then opened the door to the locker room and walked out, surprising those two and ending the "interview" for the NXT universe.
Another classic promo...
I stood there. Another empty arena. This one the home of NXT's Heatwave PPV in just 7 days. I looked around the arena, seeing the empty seats and knowing that soon enough they'd be filled with people crawling out of their parent's basements or fast food jobs or whatever else they were doing with their pathetic lives to come to this arena just to watch the show and watch the main event.
Another main event I was involved in at another PPV. I lost count on how many it was at this point. So many PPV's, so many main events, so many title shots, so many matches in general. And yet, there was something about this match, this title, this company, that seemed to make a difference in the way I went into this match thought wise. As if this one mattered more then the rest of them. And in a way, it did...
(speaking into the emptiness, the NXT camera there picking it up) This match matters more then anyone else out there can realize. This match is the start of the comeback of yours truly. I was down. I was considering out. I was considered done for. I was broken down emotionally by a woman named Analicia Morales. I was broken down mentally by her and the rest of the roster of the company I was with last. I was broken down physically by injuries I wasn't prepared for and had continued to ignore. I was considered to be done for.
And yet, within about 6 months of my disappearance from this business, I will be fighting yet again. This time with a new company. Against a new opponent. For a new championship. And even then, even with no idea of how to come into this match, even with no idea of who my opponent is, even with no idea of the outcome of this match, I'm more prepared then anyone could ever imagine. Because when it comes to a World championship... I'm impossible to be stopped.
I walked over to the middle of the ring and grabbed onto the ladder I had set up there in the middle of it. I stood there looking through the ladder into the emptiness of the arena.
Here I stand here in NXT. At the bottom of the ladder. I wasn't involved in the first ever NXT show, even if it was only a live event, so this is the debut for me here in NXT. And what a way to debut. A World title ladder match. In the main event of NXT's first ever PPV. And although people say that my name alone means I'm already at the top of the world here in NXT, that I'm the top talent here in this company, I say they're wrong. For I haven't proven myself yet. And so here I stand. At the bottom of the ladder. Looking up at the promised land. Where the NXT World title hangs in the balance. And all either myself or Dre Wilkins has to do is climb this ladder, rung by rung, and reach for the championship belt at the top, grab said championship belt, and just like that one of us makes history.
I stepped up onto the first rung of the ladder and turned away from the ladder, still on the first rung, and finally turning my attention to the NXT camera there in the corner of the ring.
Now most people heading into this kind of a situation have no knowledge of their opponents. However, when you're the greatest professional assassin ever, you always have access to anyone and everyone. So I already know about this man named Dre Wilkins, even if everyone else doesn't think I do. I know that the man hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. Such a disgusting place most of that city is. In fact, the only good thing about that city is the New Orleans Saints, which is a hell of an oxymoron considering how everyone else there aren't really saints at all with their constant partying and crimes. Then again, I'm not one to judge like that, so I could be wrong. Nonetheless, I know the guy has a little bit of a height and weight advantage on me, about a couple of inches and about 30 pounds. However, that doesn't worry me at all. I've defeated guys who were 4'11" or 7'4", guys who were 150 pounds or 675 pounds. No joke on that either, fought a guy once known as The Black Hole. Weighed 675 pounds and was about 7'1". Huge guy, didn't stand a chance against me.
Anyway, I also know all about his main moves that he uses to try to put people down and out. And I already also know all about the counters to each and every single one of those moves. After all, if you're the best professional wrestler ever, you've got a counter for everything. And I still haven't found a move I can't counter. So it's not like he'll really be able to have that kind of an advantage on me either. Not to mention the fact that I've already seen a match of his here in NXT. I was watching his match against Ross Edwards at the first NXT show and studied his in-ring skills. And although I wasn't impressed by what I saw, because for those who don't know me from my past I don't impress very easily, I did see someone who I could have a decent match with, someone who I wouldn't have to carry the whole time. Which is a good thing because there's nothing more sad and pathetic then ending up in the ring with someone who can't wrestle themselves out of a paper bag. At least this Dre fellow can do that. So it should be an interesting match. However, one he really doesn't stand a chance in.
I climbed up to the second rung of the ladder without holding onto it, still facing away from it as well.
You people watching are probably surprised I just did that. Here's another little piece of information that everyone should know about me. When it comes to a ladder, you're looking at one of the masters of it. I've fought in more ladder matches then most people have had title shots or main event matches. A lot of different variations to the original idea of a ladder match as well. Whether it was a TLC match, a King of the Mountain match, a Full Metal Mayhem match, a Money in the Bank match, a Stairway to Heaven match, a Stairway to Hell match, or whatever, I've fought in them all and won in them all. I'm not saying I'm undefeated in matches when ladders are involved, but no one's ever bet against me during them.
Nonetheless, the point is that I know this ladder like the back of my hand. I know it's advantages, it's disadvantages, it's abilities, the pain it can cause, the balance needed for it, and so much more. That's why it's hard not to give me the advantage for the type of match this is. Not to mention the fact that since you can't be disqualified in a ladder match, all weapons are legal. For those who know my past, you know that me and weapons in a wrestling match go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. Hell, I've had way too many people tell me that if I was wrestling when the original ECW was still around, they'd still be around today thanks to me. If weapons are involved, I can use any of them in anyway imaginable. And it goes beyond just chairs, ladders, tables, the steel ring steps, and common weapons like that. I'll use whatever I can find, especially the weapon that a lot of people have seen me use in the past, my good old trusty black guitar that can come out of nowhere and put splinters deep into someone's head with the force I use to smash it over their head. But that's not to say that I can't wrestle without them as well as you'll all see next week on Heatwave.
I went up the next rung of the ladder, followed by another couple of rungs to where I could sit on the top of the ladder, which I did. I sat there looking around the arena with a smile on my face.
Soon enough, these seats will be filled. Soon enough, the time will come. Soon enough, the match will take place. Two men, fighting over one ladder, climbing for one championship belt. In one corner, Dre Wilkins, a man who has a potential in this business, who has some talent, who will no doubt prove himself to be deserving of this opportunity during this match. In the other corner, the man above legendary status, the man above iconic status, the man above any label other then the god among men and the best of the best, David Arnold, the former 21 time World champion who soon enough will be the 22 time World champion. Because soon enough, this match will take place, the bell will ring, the belt will hang from the ceiling, and when the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, the better person will be left standing with the NXT World championship around his waist. That person? None other then yours truly. Dre Wilkins, prepare for your Killshot. And NXT universe, prepare for your next and first ever World champion, none other then The Assassin David Arnold.
The scene fades off for the NXT universe as I sit there on the ladder looking around the arena and getting lost i my thoughts...
